DESCRIPTION: Up to 9mm in length.  A robust looking beetle that is black throughout with a faint bluish to bronze sheen.  The antennae are entirely black except for the pale ventral surface of the two basal segments. The pronotum is broadest at the base and narrowed to the anterior margin with the lateral margin only weakly curved or occasionally straight. The surface of the elytra is ornamented with several punctated rows. The legs are entirely black with yellow tarsi. BEHAVIOUR: Usually seen on sunny days feeding on various umbellifers especially Hogweed and Angelica. DISTRIBUTION: A widespread species but local in its distribution with records mainly in the south of the UK. HABITAT: Hedgerows, field margins and roadside verges. PERIOD: June onwards with adults overwintering.
